Bramble Theare Company invited me to the world premiere of Rooted. What a treat. It was my first visit to the Bramble Arts Loft. The space is lovely, spacious, and comfortable. Bar service is quick and competant.
Rooted begins with three sisters learming that their father is selling the family home–which will drastically change their lives. The remainder of the play explores what home means to each of the sisters, and how they cope with the prospect of being uprooted. The play is filled with humor, contemplation of the unfamiliar, forbidden magical problem-solving, and the ups and downs of familial relationships.
The dialog was crisp and bright, and the performers were agile and engaging. I especially enjoyed the choreo!
The performance ran about 90 minutes and the high-energy continued throughout. I am so glad to have been invited to the world premier of Rooted.
Rooted was written by Ben F. Locke and directed by Carol Ann Tan.
