Congo Square Theatre Company, a prominent Black ensemble theater group that produced work in Chicago for a quarter of century, has been dissolved by its board of directors, according to an open letter posted on Facebook Sunday by the ensemble.
I have enjoyed the innovative and powerful productions created and performed by this company, and it hurt my heart to follow their struggles to continue as an entity. I am holding out hope that we will see, in what is certain to be a wondrously new form or fashion, more of our friends from Congo Square.
